Sport at Meath Green Junior School
At Meath Green Junior School we strongly believe in the power of sport in helping to develop rounded, healthy and confident young people. Here at school we have a long and successful tradition in sport and physical activity.
Those who have been part of the school or have visited, speak about how sport and physical activity are such an important part of the culture of the school.
All classes receive two hours of quality physical education a week and are actively involved in the school's 'run the world' initiative where pupils use the all weather track to regularly run. Collectively, as a school we have run over 170 000 miles - our goal is to reach the distance from the earth to the moon which is 240 000 miles.
Swimming at MGJS
Having our own pool ensures that all pupils get the experience of swimming each year. The aim is to develop water confidence, stroke technique and in Yr6 introduce the idea of water safety and life-saving skills.
Competiton
Competition has always been an important part of school and this is reflected in the sport and physical education the pupils experience through school. We believe passionately that every child should experience what it is like to be part of a meaningful team and experience the thrills, disappointments and comradeship that this brings.
Interhouse Competition
Our interhouse competition programme ensures this happens. Every child will represent their house in at least one interhouse competition.
Having such a strong interhouse system ensures we field strong school teams. We have a great tradition of being successful in local competitions and belong to the Reigate PE association as well as our own Horley PE association to ensure we get the correct level of competition.
Gold Mark for Sports
For the 6th year in succession we have gained this prestigious national award for sports provision in the school. This is provided for your children in daily lessons and extra-curricular opportunities. The award also considers leadership opportunities where children compete in competitive sport both within school and against other schools. This is a big achievement. Well done to the committed staff of the school who provide the clubs; the majority of which are free of charge.
